An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Automation Engineer to join a controls company with over 40 years of industrial experience, based in the Mid-West. You will be responsible for executing projects in a fast paced, multi-disciplinary, cross-functional team environment.
Primary function

You as Project / Automation Engineer will be expected to manage and coordinate projects from inception to completion and subsequent hand -over. (For individual projects)

Duties and Responsibilities
* Plan, implement and manage engineering projects at each phase including planning, design, documentation, software/graphics, installation, commissioning (and/or) validation and hand-over to client as required.
* Strong hardware & software abilities is required.
* Assist in controls & automation designs for projects.
* Preparation of Functional Design Specification (FDS) and Detailed Design Specification (DDS) from the User Requirement Specification (URS).
* Develop, test and install high quality control software code (PC and or HMI)
* Testing of control panels and automation including Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) and Site Acceptance Test (SAT).
* Operational and Maintenance Manuals (O&M's) must be complied per project.
* Work in a cross functional multidiscipline team environment / individually as a project demands.
* Fault finding within systems and correction of same.
* Maintain comprehensive documentation.
* Give reports back on projects completed.
* Support product, platform by delivering qualified systems.
* Technical Support and make informed decisions on hardware and architecture selections.
* Drive process improvements through identification of problem areas/opportunities.
* Commissioning on site.

* Develop monthly (or otherwise) metrics and management reports.
* Ensure that the company safety standards are met and safe-working practices adhered to.
* Any other task as assigned by Management taking into account your training skills and experience.

Other skills, Abilities and Education

1. Bachelor's degree in Engineering in Computer Science, Electronics, Electro-mechanical, Electrical or equivalent training/experience
2. Proficient in Microsoft word and Excel
3. Excellent communication skills - written and oral
4. Instrumentation and measurement experience is a distinct advantage
5. Methodical and analytical approach to problem solving
6. Strong understanding of Networking and communication protocols.
7. Strong Customer relationship management skills
8. Ability to read and understand Process Descriptions and P& ID's
9. Highly motivated and Self starter
10. Good team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
11. Strong interest in automation engineering.
12. Ability to travel - Valid, full, clean drivers licence.
13. Must have right to work in Ireland/EU
